GTA IV 360 Outsells PS3 Almost 2:1

GTA IV 360 Outsells PS3 Almost 2:1

More news regarding the sales of GTA IV! Apparently GameStop has exclusively given its sales figures to Newsweek's LevelUp blog. And the figures say that 64% of all copies of GTA IV sold in the first week of sales were sold on the 360. An even two thirds would've made two to one, but these are only the first week's sales, so who knows how things will pan out as time goes by.

We've heard rumors about the shipment sizes of the PS3 versions versus the 360 versions that (if true) could mean that initial shipment sales of the 360 version simply can't ever match the PS3 version until stocks are refilled. While the Gamestop sales are still good news, we'll have to wait for the April NPD for a more concrete take on the game's long term sales.

Bioshock Hitting The Big Screen

Bioshock Hitting The Big Screen

Last year, top-notch first-person shooter 'BioShock' dazzled the gaming media with its engaging storyline and incredibly rich environment. It was immediately clear that a sequel was required, and developer Take-Two is currently working on it. Now, the gaming developer has revealed that a Hollywood adaptation is in the works, as well.

Gore Verbinski -- famous for his work on the 'Pirates of the Caribbean' films -- has been lined up for directorial duties. The screenwriter for the script has not been finalized, but John Logan, who wrote 'Star Trek: Nemesis' and 'The Aviator' is currently in talks to handle that duty.

It's always hard to know what to expect when talking about a film based on a video game, but it's got to be better than the film adaptation of 'BloodRayne' -- right?

Xbox 360 Getting Case Revision

Xbox 360 Getting Case Revision

We think we've already got a handle on the various chipset revisions planned for Microsoft's too-beautiful-for-this-world Xbox 360*, but it looks like that planned 45nm "Valhalla" combined CPU / GPU motherboard design we've been hearing about might also come in a redesigned, smaller case. That's certainly news to us, but TG Daily has the refresh happening on the same fall-2009 timeline we've been hearing about, so at least all these sketchy rumors line up. We'll see when we see -- it sounds like the 65nm Jasper units are coming off the line for that August release in the meantime to keep us all warm at night.

Xbox 360 Getting Blu-Ray

Xbox 360 Getting Blu-Ray

After months of rumors and denials, the XBOX 360 with a Blu-ray disc drive is due to be manufactured soon and shipped in Q3 of 2008. Pegatron Technology, an OEM subsidiary of Asustek Computer, is reported to have received the winning order from Microsoft for a Blu-ray equipped XBOX 360.

Earlier reports cited Lite-On as the company with the privilege of building the new console for Microsoft. Lite-On is also currently one of the suppliers of the internal DVD drive fro the XBOX 360.

One of the strong points for Sony’s Playstation 3 has been the integrated Blu-ray player. The PS3 had the ability to draw both gamers and audio/video enthusiast, and this was proving to be a major advantage over its XBOX rival. It is estimated that 85% of Blu-ray players in use are PS3s. Microsoft chief executive Steve Ballmer had admitted that Microsoft had been working on support for Blu-ray under Windows during this year’s Mix08 conference. Rumors began to swirl and many began to expect Microsoft to announce a Blu-ray peripheral for the XBOX 360.
